The Events Committee arranges the majority of the Company’s social events and is always keen to receive suggestions from Liverymen and Freemen. Events the Arts Scholars have run in the past are listed below, with the most recent event shown first.

Fish & Chips Lunch

The Arts Scholars are pleased to announce another in their series of Fish and Chips Lunches. These offer a perfect opportunity to meet fellow Arts Scholars and get to know each other in a relaxed and informal manner.

Election of Sheriffs & Lunch

Guildhall and Butchers' Hall

All eligible Liverymen (admitted on or before 31 May 2021) are invited to attend the Guildhall on Friday 24 June 2022 for the Election of Sheriffs for the City of London. This is one of the City of London's most important occasions. A limited number of places are available for a lunch at Butchers' Hall after the event.

Liverymen only wishing to attend Common Hall should not register for this event, but should email the Clerk who will arrange a pass.

Visit to St Peter ad Vincula and Ceremony of the Keys

The Arts Scholars are privileged to be given a private tour of the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula by fellow Arts Scholar, the Revd Canon Roger Hall MBE, Canon of the Chapels Royal, followed by drinks in the Keys Club as personal guests of the Chief Yeoman Warder, and the Ceremony of the Keys.

In addition, as personal guests of the Chief Yeoman Warder, we will have drinks at The Keys Club, which has a cash bar.

Belmont House and Gardens

Built between 1769 and 1793 and set in its own parkland amid stunning vistas of rolling Kent countryside, Belmont House remains an unspoilt example of Samuel Wyatt’s distinctive architectural style. Belmont’s collections comprise objects collected during six generations of continuous occupation by the Harris family. Mementos of the family’s travels and history include paintings, photograph albums, and furniture in addition to fine English silver in the Indian taste and one of the finest private collections of clocks and watches in Britain.

Lunch is included in the price.

Coronations and Coronation Furniture

Until recently, very little was known about the chairs and stools manufactured specifically for British coronations since the reign of Edward VII. In his first online lecture for the Art Scholars, Freeman Luke Honey traces the fascinating story of British coronations (and investitures) since the coronation of Queen Victoria in 1838, and explains how the design of coronation furniture reflects the evolution of our constitutional monarchy in the 20th century.

Installation Ceremony & Dinner

Liverymen and Freemen are invited to attend the installation ceremony of Master Elect, Alan S. Cook, as the fifteenth Master Arts Scholar. The other officers of the Company will be installed on the night. Afterwards there will be a reception and dinner to celebrate this important occasion.

Ceremony starts 6.15pm. Drinks reception, 6.45pm. Three-course dinner with wines and stirrup cup, 7.20pm.

Arts Scholars Golf Day

Denham Golf Club, Buckinghamshire

Arts Scholars Golf Day at DENHAM GOLF CLUB, Buckinghamshire. A picturesque course set in the Colne Valley and only 20 miles from central London.

The format for the day will be a Stableford and we will also have a yellow ball competition. Bacon rolls and coffee will be provided and we can also have a 3-course lunch afterwards.

Eva Weininger Lecture - Who Made the Bayeux Tapestry?

A talk by fellow Arts Scholar Professor Michael Lewis, which will bring together new research on how the Bayeux Tapestry was made and the sources that influenced its design. Michael Lewis is the Head of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and a founding member of the European Public Finds Recording Network.

A drinks reception with nibbles will follow.
