Visit to Linklaters’ Art Collection

Linklaters, Silk Street, EC2

Linklaters' Art Collection is made up of over 1500 artworks, mostly Modern and Contemporary paintings, prints and drawings. This tour will look at the highlights of the collection and give an overview of the benefits and challenges of a corporate art collection.

Chitra Collection of Teawares

In 2011 Nirmal Sethia, the Chairman of the luxury tea company, Newby Teas, set himself the task of acquiring the world’s greatest collection of teawares to record and preserve tea cultures of the past. Today, the collection, named in honour of his late wife, Chitra, totals almost 2000 objects and is already the world’s finest and most comprehensive of its kind.

Fish & Chips Lunch

The latest edition of an Arts Scholars tradition: the Friday Fish and Chips lunch at the City University Club. The lunch will include Fish and chips, a glass of wine, dessert of the day, coffee and chocolates and a staff gratuity.

2025 Annual Banquet

The Master Arts Scholar, Roy Sully, invites you to join him at the Company’s Annual Banquet, which will be held at Fishmongers' Hall.

The Fishmongers’ Company, one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies, has been in existence for 700 years. The Hall was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666 and devastated by bombs in World War II. Now restored to its former glory, it houses magnificent art and antiquities.

Private Tour of Goldsmiths’ Hall

The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths is one of the Great Twelve City Livery Companies of the City of London and ranks fifth in order of precedence. The company originates from 12th century London and received its royal charter in 1327. As well as being home to the London Assay Office which protects consumers by testing and hallmarking precious metals, it trains and supports jewellers, silversmiths and allied trades, and works with charitable, educational and cultural partners.

What can AI do for me as an Arts Scholar and as an individual

In this online talk, Arts Scholar Alan Freeland will discuss how Arts Scholars could be enjoying the benefits of AI tools like ChatGPT. The talk covers real examples of how people like us are using AI every day to make their lives easier and to inject a little extra fun. We will explore some of the skills like ‘Asking the right question’ and ‘Critical Thinking’ that we will need in the age of AI. This talk hopefully gives you the understanding you need to use AI effectively and enjoyably.

The History of Glass Engraving

Katharine Coleman MBE is a leading glass engraver whose work is represented in museums across the world. In this online lecture she will outline the history of glass engraving from its ancient origins to the contemporary period. Examples of engraved glass from different cultures and countries and various techniques used in producing them will be shown.

Carol Service at St James Garlickhythe

Arts Scholars and their guests are invited to join a combined Clockmakers, Arts Scholars and Nurses Livery Companies Carol Service at St James Garlickhythe. This will be a traditional service of carols and lessons conducted by the Reverend Canon Anthony Howe with music from members of St James’s choir and organistt, Dr Andrew Shopy. The service will be followed by a reception in the church.

Advent Carol Service
