The Mithras lecture is the Arts Scholars’ flagship annual lecture, and this year it will be given by leading art historian, publisher and broadcaster Dr Carol Jacob, Curator of British Art 1850-1915 at Tate Britain. In the lecture, entitled “The Light of the World’ by William Holman Hunt”, Carol will give an account of the history and significance of this remarkable painting. "The Light of the World" is a pre-Raphaelite picture painted by in 1904.

A drinks reception with canapes will follow.

Arts Scholars are invited to attend this year's Common Hall to hear about the Company's activities over the past year, listen to future plans and put questions to the various committees: Charity, Communications, Education, Events, Finance and Membership.

After the formal proceedings have concluded there will be a reception in the Gold Drawing Room, followed by a dinner in the Livery Hall. Members who wish to attend Common Hall but not stay for the dinner should not register for this event, but contact the Clerk

Discover two little-known museum gems in Greenwich and Blackheath: Ranger’s House with the stupendous collection of Renaissance treasures of the Wernher Collection, and the Fan Museum which the world’s first museum for the preservation and display of hand fans.

The Werher Collection will be visited in the morning and the Fan Museum in the afternoon. Lunch will be at own expense.

The latest edition of an Arts Scholars tradition: the Friday Fish and Chips lunch at the City University Club. Please note a slightly changed format: the lunch will include Fish and chips, a glass of wine, dessert of the day, coffee and chocolates and a staff gratuity.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea, home to the iconic Chelsea Pensioners, continues to serve as the nation’s first ever home for army veterans. Arts Scholars will be given a private walking tour led by a resident Chelsea Pensioner. We will marvel at Sir Christopher Wren’s stunning buildings, hear the captivating stories of the RHC’s inhabitants – both past and present – and learn what life is like for today’s veteran at the Royal Hospital.

Liverymen only wishing to attend Common Hall should not register for this event, but should email the Clerk who will arrange a pass.

All Liverymen, who have been members of the Company on or before 31 May 2023, are invited to attend the Guildhall on Monday 24 June 2024 for the Election of Sheriffs for the City of London. This is one of the City of London's most important occasions. A limited number of places are available for a lunch at Butchers' Hall after the event.
