The Events Committee arranges the majority of the Company’s social events and is always keen to receive suggestions from Liverymen and Freemen. Events the Arts Scholars have run in the past are listed below, with the most recent event shown first.

Members' Social Dinner

Join other Arts Scholars for an informal early evening social dinner. This event will provide the perfect opportunity to chat, network and simply have time to get to know one another during a relaxed evening.

Common Hall & Dinner

Arts Scholars are invited to attend this year's Common Hall to hear about the Company's activities over the past year, listen to future plans and put questions to the various committees: Charity, Communications, Education, Events, Finance and Membership.
After the formal proceedings have concluded there will be a reception in the Gold Drawing Room, followed by a dinner in the Livery Hall. Members who wish to attend Common Hall but not stay for the dinner should not register for this event, but contact the Clerk

2025 Holiday: Holland & the Dutch Masters

Mudlarking on the Thames - Two Dates (29th & 30th August)

Devote a couple of hours to exploring the Thames foreshore for artifacts under the expert guidance of Stuart Wyatt, Finds Liaison Officer from the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Afterwards, repair to a nearby hostelry to review and discuss your discoveries.

Fish & Chips Lunch

The latest edition of an Arts Scholars tradition: the Friday Fish and Chips lunch at the City University Club. The lunch will include Fish and chips, a glass of wine, dessert of the day, coffee and chocolates and a staff gratuity.

Chelsea Riverside Walking Tour

Meet at Carlyle Square bus stop (KD) on south side of Kings Road
Join fellow Arts Scholar, Christopher Claxton Stevens, for a Chelsea Riverside Walking Tour. Principal attractions are major historic houses, including Crosby Hall (exterior only), 19th century artists’ dwellings, the site of the Chelsea Porcelain factory, the village church (hopefully with a visit inside) and Cremorne Gardens. The tour will finish on Lots Road.

Cockpit Studios Bloomsbury

We will visit Cockpit Studios, a top venue for contemporary artists. There, we will meet three leading artists: Katharine Coleman MBE (glass engraver), Clunie Fretton (wood carver), and Ute Decker (artist jeweller).

Installation Ceremony & Dinner

Arts Scholars and their guests are invited to attend the installation ceremony of Master Elect, Deborah Charles, as the eighteenth Master Arts Scholar.
The other officers to be installed are: Roy Sully as Deputy Master, John Benjamin as Upper Warden, Sonya Zuckerman as Middle Warden and Mary Foster as Renter Warden.
Afterwards there will be a reception and dinner to celebrate this important occasion.

Guided Tour of Hall Place, Bexley

Hall Place, a hidden gem, was built in 1537 for Lord Mayor Sir John Champneys, it was then purchased by Sir Robert Austin who added a wing in 1649. The house in set in 65 hectares of garden. The visit includes a guided tour of the house and an unguided tour of the gardens.
