Honorary Chaplain

Revd Canon Roger Hall LVO MBE QHC
The Reverend Canon Roger Hall was raised in Shropshire and pursued his education in Liverpool before undertaking priesthood training in Lincoln. Following his curacy in Shropshire, Canon Hall commenced his service as a chaplain in the British Army in 1987. During the initial twelve years of his military career, he served as an operational chaplain in locations including Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, and East Timor.
He subsequently held the position of chaplain to the Household Division and the Guards Chapel for two years, which he describes as both interesting and demanding. After this appointment, Canon Hall returned to Germany as Senior Chaplain and was later promoted to Assistant Chaplain General, resulting in a four-year tenure in Edinburgh.
Throughout his distinguished career as an Army Chaplain, Canon Hall received notable recognitions: in 1993 he was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service, and in 1997 was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). In 2025, he was further honoured by appointment as Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO), an accolade personally bestowed by the monarch.
Upon resigning his Commission in 2007, Canon Hall became chaplain to the late Queen and Chaplain to HM Tower of London. Alongside his responsibilities at HM Tower of London, he served as Chaplain to Bacon's College, a city academy, until 2019, and continues as Chaplain to five livery companies, the East India Club, and the Order of Gallantry.
Canon Hall is also Patron of Veterans’ Voluntary Service (VVS) and previously served as Trustee of Chapter 1, a national housing trust based in the City of London.
