Roy Sully

Having expected to become an academic librarian after completing a postgraduate degree at
Sheffield University, Roy changed direction and worked in the City for Phoenix Assurance
and Royal Insurance before becoming Head of the Development Office at The British
Library.

As a Chartered Secretary he first came into close contact with the livery world as Charities
Manager for the Worshipful Company of Butchers. He is now Clerk to The Strand Parishes
Trust, an endowed charity in Westminster.

For several years he was a Churchwarden of the Priory Church of St Bartholomew the Great,
the oldest in London. He continues to be the Parish Clerk and is a Court Assistant of the
Worshipful Company of Parish Clerks.

Roy is the Chairman of the St Bartholomew Gatehouse Trust which is responsible for one of
the few half-timbered buildings in London to have survived the Great Fire in 1666. He is a
Trustee of the St Clement Danes Educational Foundation and a member of the Parochial
Church Council of St Mary le Strand.

He lives with his wife Shirley in The Barbican Estate where he is the Honorary Secretary of
the Barbican Association.
