Mary Foster

Mary Foster

Mary grew up in Essex, was at school in Sussex and then completed a first degree in
Economics at the London School of Economics, followed by a Masters in
Economics, also at LSE. She worked both in Stockholm and London for a variety of
international banks with roles in investment banking, specialising in continental
Europe.
She is now a director of her husband’s family farm in Suffolk, where activities range
from arable farming to holiday accommodation, and the Mid Suffolk Light Railway
Museum, recently joined by the newly established Mendlesham Airfield Museum.
Her husband, Tony Alston is also a liveryman of the Company and a past master
Farmer.
She also has a variety of charity trustee roles, including for The Strand Parishes
Trust, The Shire Horse Society and Thames Ditton Homes. She is also a court
member of the Worshipful Company of Farmers and Chair of its investment
committee.
She joined the Company in 2010 and was Treasurer and Chair of Finance until May
2025, stepping down to become Renter Warden.
